so yea recently enviromentalists are very hyped up over global warming following the Stern's report and the Inconvenient truth movie.. (which i actually want to watch =( ) they're fearing the earth's water lvl will rise rapidly due to ice caps melting and some weather changing patterns like the el nino effect which will cause droughts in parts of the world like asia.. and they say it'll happen in our lifetime if nothing is done soon.. something about the US refusing to ratify the kyoto protocol.. which seems the logical thing to do considering they're the worst polluter of greenhouse gases.. lol..


ok so here's the interesting thing.. we learn in POF that when u add ice to a cup of water and the water lvl is exactly at the brim, after the ice melts, the water will NOT overflow but will remain at the same level.. sounds familiar ya? 1 year ago stuff..


so now the qn is if the ice caps ALL melt, by archimedes' principle, wouldnt the earth's sea level remain the same? so what the hell are these pple complaining about rising water levels for? lol got u there right? :P




not true.. because if all the ice melts, the water level will still rise.. this is because most of the ice on earth are grounded.. i.e. its not floating.. so the theory of mass of volume of water diplaced = mass of ice is no longer valid.. actually this explaination shd be enuf.. if u still dun get it, either u think harder, or u probably will never get it.. (cos ur understanding of POF is terrible) hahaha i noe this'll irritate, but its the truth.. sorry..
