Cash bonuses for NSmen in pipeline

All 700,000 men who have served can expect between $100 and $200 if plan gets OK
By David Boey
Defence Correspondent

THE 700,000 Singapore men here who have done National Service can expect a cash bonus when the Government conducts its next exercise to share the nation's bounty.

This 'gesture of appreciation' is being proposed to the Government, for Parliament to decide in the coming Budget debate, due in late February. If the proposal is accepted, those who have served NS can expect between $100 and $200 in cash.
....

omg guys.. 2 years of our lives are worth $100-$200.. how comforting.. i now feel more motivated to serve...

you wun noe...

how wonderful the main island of s'pore till u've enlisted...

how fantastic the feelin of taking a tibs bus is till u book out...

how delicious 2 packets of chicken flavoured maggie mee can taste till u've tasted combat ration...

how comfortable ur bed is till u sleep on a piece of ground sheet in forest... got 1 company mate kana bitten by snake and a lot by centipede.. freakin damn big ok the centipede.. is like HUGE... see also scared sia.. er xin man.. the the mosquitoes there are damn pro.. my no 4 so thick also can penetrate... kana bitten like countless times..

how nice it is to have a roof over ur head when u sleep @ nite till it rains @ 1am, leaving u totally drenched...

how great it is to be able to bathe after 4 days of perspiring like shit and not being able to bathe with water... (everyday powder bath)

so field camp is over... @ last... but still have sit test... another 3 days... siannnn.... good luck to all u guys who've yet to go... hahaha.. enter leopard crawling... song bo!

btw combat rations really sucks... i ate for the 1st 2 days then nv eat le.. the rest all eat energy bars.. the equavalent of uncle tobby but tastes much worse.. but still better than the combat ration.. got some idiots went to throw away and got caught.. the whole platoon suffered.. bloody dumb..

tip to dispose of combat rations:
1)tear open
2)pour some away
3)throw away..

ya la i know kinda waste food but if u dun throw, u carry loh.. and ur field pack like not already very heavy.. and packed...

everyday have to apply camo cream.. so troublesome and mostly doesnt have any use.. the instructors keep making us camo on camo off.. waste cream only..

by right was supposed to book out on thur after field camp.. but because of 1 stupid lunch ytd to celebrate cny, make us stay 2 more days and deprive us of better food.. ok la the food got chicken rice, roast duck, egg tart, char siew sou, chocolate icecream.. probably the best food the cook house ever served but if i got the choice i'd rather not eat and book out on thur..

sh say tekong got problem.. i think so too... almost everyone like coughing (myself included) and a lot of pple fever... its the water man.. even the instructors say so...

cny @ long last.. my long awaited holiday...... ahhhhhhhhhhh.....

on another note i received my olympic mascots from my mum fren in china... whaha.. quite cool...

The five friendlies are an incredible little family carefully chosen by Beijing 2008 to represent all of China to carry a message of friendship to the children of the world... Designed to express the playful qualities of five little children who form an intimate circle of friends, the Five Friendlies also embody the natural characteristics of four of China's most popular animals--the Fish, the Panda, the Tibetan Antelope, the Swallow--and the Olympic Flame....

now i noe y there is e term chao recruit.. everyone stinks.. esp those who refuse to change to new clothes on day 3.. OMG.. e STENCH..

on e upside, the sight u see when u look up @ nite in pitch darkness is quite magnificent.. stars... a LOT of stars..

Direct Enhanced admission (9 weeks) vs PTP batch...(13 weeks)

when i failed my napfa, i tot.. gone-ed... 4 weeks more... now thinking back, i'm actually quite grateful i entered ptp..

ptp vs enhanced admission is like "JC with 1st 3 months" vs "JC without 1st 3 months"...

for the latter, u have to go for lectures after school till evening almost daily.. and 4 e former, everyday is machiam holiday... (e best time of jc is 1st 3 months)...

same with bmt vs ptp.. heard from sh tt his platoon had 10 minutes for 48 pple to bathe in about 7 toilet cubicles.. lol..

well for ptp batch, or @ least my company, we have at least 1 hour daily of admin time where we do watever we want.. apart from illegal stuff.....

in the 4 extra weeks, we completed so many things.. 1st aid test, Technical handling of weapon, swim test, drills, etc... imagine those 9 weeks pple have to squeeze these into their already packed bmt phase..

of course i'm not sayin its impossible to still do well in bmt for those direct enhanced.. jus like some pple *cough* can still get 3 As without 1st 3 months jc.. its possible, but much tougher... i bet none of those 9 weekers will ever get to watch lord of the rings in their lecture room, nor will they get a 2pm Routine Order, nor will they get to sleep @ 9pm..

perhaps 9 weeks is too short.. 11 would be jus right, considering i had so much holidays.. new year, christmas + my mc..

so for u guys who've yet to enter, dun be too happy if u're direct enhance and dun despair if u're in ptp phase..

but no matter, u just have the feelin army life sucks.. or @ least a recruit's life.. whether u're ptp batch or direct enhanced i believe its the same.. maybe apart from a rare few.. i believe its a feelin no one will understand unless u enter bmt...

if i had a choice, i'd rather study for A levels than carry on my bmt.. its tt bad.. the instructors (@ least most) dun really care about ur welfare.. despite all the talk about welfare.. they give u impossible deadlines and punish u for not meetin them.. they punish u for smiling, they confine u for sleepin in e afternoon etc etc etc... furthermore the water in tekong contains cleaning chemicals, chlorine??, that makes everyone cough..

the worse is yet to come... my field camp (7 days outfield) is directly b4 cny and my sit test (3 days outfield) is directly after it.. wow.. and there's soc and ippt..

today i'm bookin in with only 1 tot in my mind, i'm bookin out in 11 days! - for a 7 day holiday... & i cant wait..
