is your obsession with your mega church undermining your family ties?

read this editorial:

"I READ with deep interest the article, 'Drawing the line between Caesar and God' (ST, Aug 2).

The objection of one of the large independent churches in Singapore to complying with provisions in the draft code of governance for charities would logically provoke concern about its financial transparency. This is especially so as these are 'rich' churches, judging by their well-equipped premises and set-up. These circumstances bring to light another concern. Some of these 'mega churches' have relentless recruitment activities in many schools and junior colleges.

My friends and I have loved ones whose lives and attitude have changed after they joined these churches. They lose interest in schoolwork to the point of academic failure. Family time is curtailed drastically, and they stop attending family functions. Parental objections are ignored, family squabbles ensue and family harmony is disrupted. It's heartbreaking. It is like we have lost our children.

I write this not to impugn any religion, but to warn against the abuse of religion. Having had such traumatic experiences, I cannot remain silent. I hope this letter will serve as a warning to parents regarding such youth activities that may destroy their personal lives and family harmony."

Dr Lee Bee Wah

poor guy.. clearly his kids have forsaken the family for religion.. smacks of extremism to me..

recently churches have been quite in the limelight..

some are so damn rich they can pay $280 million to build and relocate their church to buona vista...

thats like 30% of the extra $$$ the govt will collect in 2007 by increasing the gst by 2%..

so the money that such prominent doctors are giving their extremists kids are being used to fund the construction of larger churches so more members can be recruited.. (and probability tells us that this will only result in more extremist kids :S )

i often read about muslim clerics in sg having to go for courses etc to ensure that they impart the right moral values and maybe toe the line.. (and of course not set up terror camps like in pakistan) ..

what about the religious leaders of other religions? are they exempted?
if so, why?

is it because osama spots a beard?

another 2 reasons to not take public transport..

i'll be leaving out the common reasons but if u really need them, proceed to http://www.buycommonsense.com ...

anyway here goes..

driving allows u to avoid having to encounter:

1) amatuer DJs
2) people who think buses and trains are kbox

1) these "DJs" (most of them i have encountered are of a different race) attempt to drive you nuts by showing off their very effective handphone speakers.. thing is, they inadvertently display their horrible taste for music..

2) these "superstars" are often in groups of 2 or more.. they are observed to frequently gather at the back/ends of trains and buses.. more often than not, their singing sucks and they're merely trying to piss everyone off and get people to stare/turn to glance at them.. since they're obviously attention seekers, i'm considering applauding such superstars the next time i come across them again..

its already very frustrating having to deal with the long journeys and ever increasing transport prices and the stress from work, the last thing we need is for such clowns to humiliate themselves and in the process irritate everyone else..

you know u've been watching too much 24 when..

fyi 24 is a serial show about counter-terrorism in LA..

when...

you dream that one of ur colleague u dislike is a terrorist and he got arrested in an airport..

you dream that singapore is under a nuclear attack and u try to flee to KL with ur family (this part is coolness because even in the dream, i could process the fact that the singapore dollar would depreciate and i tried to convert cash into US dollars.. haha..check out my core 2 quad processor tts btw my ears) ...

you dream that you're using extreme interrogation techniques (electrocuting) when questioning a suspect...

you dream that you being chased by terrorist on a high speed boat chase (and here i see high tech attack vessels using primitive weapons like those u see in pirates of the carribbean)...

LOL... in 2 naps and 1 sleep ytd those happened to me.. too much shows le..

haha =x

Dear fellow ORD personnels,

U know about that piece of crap craftily disguised as a magazine called Pioneer?

Yes, the once a month publication every one of us have been forced to subscribe to for the past 1 year plus.

Yes, the magazine that some of us throw away without even peeling open the plastic wrapper.

That non-enviromentally-friendly publication.

Yup, its time to put an end to the subscription before you ord!

Otherwise, its going to cost u $20++ for 3 years for Advance Pioneer Subscription.

Yes, you heard me right.

Its one thing being compelled to "subscribe" during ur 2 years.

Its another thing when we become civilians.
