neopets..
recently i actually re-picked up neopets casually.. O.o?? roll eyes rite? i know.. in sec sch n jc i was mad about it.. like many hours per day.. well, until my account got frozen.. with it was around 200 million neopoints worth of items.. a recent check showed that if my account was still around, the account would fetch more than 500 million neopoints..
i think most people have that bias that neopets = gay, playing flash games and rearing a pet, yada yada..
but to me, the truth cant be farther.. in fact, i cant help but behold it as the most educational game i've ever played..
Lessons
1) neopets stock market: buying stocks at 15np and den holding them till >30np before selling.. buying low selling high, this still applies in the real world's stock market..
2) profitting from supply n demand: i never took econs, but neopets gave me real experience on how supply n demand works (there're tens of millions of active players, i bet its better than reading textbooks!!)..
hoarding lots of items at low prices when the supply is high and then selling them at higher prices.. during advent calendar for example when certain items are vastly circulated, i picked up the knack of identifying what items will soar in price.. in real life, this translated to F1, liverpool & concert tickets, to name a few..
3) restocking: waiting at shops for items to sell and den buying them, reselling at a profit.. camping at shops for the items to appear helped build my patience and stamina for camping tremendously.. which is probably why i can watch the pitstop for so long stretches whereas others simply give up the wait..
with restocking also brings to mind the effectiveness of good computers and internet speed.. which was why i was willing to spend 2k in may to get this new laptop solely to camp.. i understood the importance of a good rig and i've never looked back since.. my only regret was not getting 7.2mbps mobile broadband, perhaps things would be better..
4) trading post/auctions: putting up items for trade/sale.. searching for market prices and learning to deal with people, holding your stand and asking price.. no doubt the transition from neopets to real forum marketplaces was a breeze.. seeing as how so few people i know actually bother to sell their stuff online, i think this deserves a mention..
something i was really hooked on was battledome.. training pet to get really insane stats and fighting in battles n wars for the prizes on offer.. to keep fighting the same opponent again and again, it requires dedication and builds patience and determination.. in many ways, these qualities were inbued into me..
ironically, battledome was the thing tat caused my freezing.. long story, my over-eagerness to triumph..
well i'm sure there're more i've learnt from the game, i'm just naming some that i can come up with.. but no, i don't play flash games, except for getting medals..
so if you see my playing neopets, dun laugh, because i'm having the last... and if one day i succeed as planned, i wont be ashamed to admit that neopets helped me along greatly..
so wat're you waiting for? try neopets again, it changed my life, perhaps it'll do the same to yours.. =)
that was my setup @ its prime.. jade ss, thyoras tear, faerie slingshot, ghostkersword.. i traded those and my time for lessons that have served me well..
10 cores in 2 sem..
The intensity varies drastically.
Essentially its 5 cores + 1 elective last sem, ditto this sem. Instinctively you would think, if last sem was okay, this sem I should already be accustomed to it.
But Noooooooo.
Its just insane.
And to make matters worse, I've to juggle lectures, tutorials and mugging with singtelrace.
Right now, I'm only looking forward to the end of 10 more weeks!

Dying
Tutorials suck.
Lectures drain.
Most expensive textbook till date; and the only core testbook first hand, and it tells me that F=ma is Newton's 3rd Law. Well done.

Jokes aside, reading the textbook is just like pouring through an encyclopedia. Nevertheless, I cant help but marvel at the advancements and achievements in biochemistry.
Though biochem has no break, it sure beats listening to "g-c-del-P equals to MAST times acceleration". (or whatever the equation is... I KNOW ITS WRONG)
And you thought masts belong to ships.

[Warning: Extremely bo liao entry]
I'm going to post something really ridiculous, ignoring the fact that I've wasted enough time today.
Seeing as I normally cannot stand the heat, I normally carry a hand held fan in my bag and to date, I've collected a handful.

That's my collection. Now you get why I warned about this post is being BL.
In fact each and every one has its own story. LOL. True story.
Maybe one day when I've gone nuts I'll narrate them one by one.

But considering is horrid my timetable this sem is, perhaps that day might come soon.
Nevertheless, seeing cute meimei in yukata on the bus does help brighten the day.

The power of inflation? or simply an excuse to rip the public off?

Singapore, 25 February 2005 — Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics), today announced that it has won a S$10.5 million contract to supply Platform Screen Doors (PSD) for Taipei’s Mucha Extension (Neihu) Line in Taiwan. ... ST Electronics Taiwan will design, supply, install and commission the platform screen doors for the 12-station Neihu Line
Aug 13, 2009 THE first sets of platform screen doors designed to keep people off the train tracks went up on Wednesday at Pasir Ris MRT station.
Jurong East and Yishun stations will be next and all three stations will have doors fitted by the end of the year. The remaining 33 above-ground MRT stations will get them from January next year.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is spending $126 million on the project and aims to complete work on the remaining 33 stations by 2012.
Singapore Technologies Electronics, which won the contract to install the doors, is carrying out the works. But don't worry. We have to pay more so as to prevent corruption. Even in this case, we need to ensure that ST Electronics do not provide substandard glass doors! This is how things work here. You pay top dollars for crap!

something to ponder upon..
happy belated singapore by the way..
imagine during the parade...
Parade Commander (PC): Mr president, permission to carry on the march past.
President (Na): Permission not granted. *whistles*
PC: ???? Sir???
Na: I think I want to inspect the Guard of Honour again.
PC: ???? *jaw drops*

post inspection no. 2
PC: Mr president, permission to carry on the march past.
Na: Permission not granted. *whistles*
PC: (whispers) ji pai siao liao...
Prime Minister (PM): Oei siao aei! You dont chu stunt. You think very fun issit? Make my father stand so long. Not funny ok! Tell you want, you go sign 3 extra, next week you on Istana guard duty.
PC: *sniggers* Mr president, permission to carry on...
PM: You better think carefully, otherwise I cut your food allowance.
Na: Ok ok.. Carry on la! (wah sian kana extra....)
Alright enough of jokes.. I think if someone paid me 2.5 million each year, I will personally tell the PC to carry on before he even asks. haha.

outing with bmt mates..
Latecoming sucks!! Its worse than not even turning up and yet it has become such a common trend. Refering to being more than 30 mins late!! 1-2 hours is just unacceptable.
Nevertheless, it was really fun at mind's cafe though I lost in most of the games played.
But the best of all was Jenga. It made me realised what sadistic NS friends I have. Most of them immediately targeted the bottom most tiles.
Well pictures says it best:

That said, we play 3 games and they lasted really long. (the longest was at least 30 mins!!) The table nearby had theirs collapse at least 4 times during that game alone.
Amazing game, you just keep dreading your approaching turn. Haha.
Lunch, mind's, dinner, dessert.. That's about all.
